"You're going to be an illustrator, I can see it a mile off". So said my art teacher at school. I didn't exactly know what an illustrator was, but I was suitably flattered.

I grew up in Staffordshire, UK, and the only other job I've ever done was at Alton Towers ("Britain's premier Theme Park"), a place inhabited by 6 foot tall dancing bears and where a 13 hour day was considered the norm. Perfect preparation for life as a children's illustrator.

Since graduation in 1994 I've illustrated well in excess of 100 children's books. Numbered amongst these a hugely enjoyable series of books about a child detective, Jigsaw Jones by James Preller (Scholastic, Inc). I have just finished my twenty ninth book in the series (see below). In addition to illustrating books I also receive regular commissions from the BBC for magazine work, and have recently completed a range of ceramics and toys for Whittard of Chelsea, UK.

After spending a couple of years living in Italy, I now reside in Godalming, working from a studio so messy it would turn any mother's hair white.
